Programs

Our main programs are in the summer and winter. More information about each is described below. Three additional programs also occur, in October, February, and in the Spring.

Summer Program Description

Teams of twelve to thirty young people under the directions of a Program Manager and several student leaders are organized in many of the unions of the NAD. OHC is responsible for many of these programs.

During the summer of 2000 programs were held in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Greater New York, Northern New England, Southern New England, and Mountain View conferences. During 2001 programs were held in the Iowa-Missouri, New Jersey, Chesapeake, and Mountain View Conferences. During the summer of 2002, there was one program in the New Jersey Conference. During 2003, programs were held in the New York and Wisconsin Conferences. During 2004 a program will be held in Wichita, Kansas. It will be hosted by the Three Angels Church, pastored by Don Macintosh.

The programs are generally ten weeks long and generally begin the first or second Sunday in June of each year. A commitment to work for the entire term of the program is required of students aged 16 and over. Students in their earlier teens may be admitted into the program for three to four weeks at the discretion of the program manager.

Students working for the entirety of the program have generally earned an average of $3,000 in scholarships above the expenses of the program.

Christmas Program Description

The first Sunday after Thanksgiving is the opening day for the annual winter-break Magabook program. These programs, dating from 1996, have set continual records for sales and student satisfaction. These programs are typically filled with college students almost exclusively from certain mission training schools that have winter breaks from Thanksgiving till Christmas. Younger students may be accepted as well, but parents should be aware that only minimal supervision is given to these programs filled with older students. You may apply online, or if you would like more information in this program call Eugene Prewitt at (870) 223-2375 or e-mail him at canvassing@canvassing.org.
