Definitions

Regular Students
Regular Students are those students that work in a program from its first day of work to its last day of work, and that miss no other days of work in between except as are excused for serious reasons. Regular students agree to the terms and policies of the program. Regular students are able to work at the doors alone.
Visitors
Visitors are persons that join after the program begins and/or that leave before it ends and/or do not work each day that they are required to work. Regular students may be downgraded to visitors if they do not abide by their student contract.
Leaders and Helpers
Leaders and helpers are persons that assist with the driving, cooking, accounting, and administering of the program and that are hired for that very purpose. Volunteers may also be considered as Leaders or Helpers, but they are not paid and therefore this policy is not written for them.
Pay for Regular Students

Regular Students may be allowed to work with more experienced students during the first few days that they are in a program. When an inexperienced student is working with a more experienced student, all sales are counted to the account of the more experienced student regardless of who persuaded the person to buy the books, or of who did the talking. This is important for new students to understand. They do not begin earning money until they are working by themselves.

Regular students earn 30 percent (30%) of their gross sales in the form of a scholarship to the school of their choice. They may receive an additional bonus of 20 percent (20%) of sales. This bonus will not be given to the following classes of students:

  1. Those that leave early
  2. Newly trained students that work less than five days on their own

The bonus will be given to students that work the entire pre-agreed time and follow reasonably well the code of conduct. Fines, may be deducted from the 20% bonus for misbehavior.

The 20% bonus will be given to all students that do not forfeit it by items mentioned above. In addition to the 20% bonus, most students will receive a matching scholarship awarded by the school they are attending. In the last six years, less than half a dozen students (from a pool over more than 200) have failed to receive their 20% bonus.

If they will be attending Ouachita Hills College, this scholarship is a 100% matching scholarship, up to $1,000 per semester and up to $2,000 per year.

An average student attending Ouachita Hills College for two semesters after the summer would have a combined scholarship of $5,300 for the ten weeks of work. This includes the $2,000 given by the college as a matching scholarship.

Pay for Visitors
Persons wishing to join the program for a short time, or needing to leave before their pre-arranged time will be paid 30% of their sales, less deductions and fines. Sales made while working at the door with other students will not be counted in favor of the visiting student.
Pay for Leaders and Helpers
Leaders and Helpers are paid out of a fund composed of 15% of gross sales. The fund is divided among the leaders and helpers according to the ratio of their work units. A leader will generally earn one work unit for each day he leads a team (or works as a ground leader). Leaders also will earn one work unit for substantial work in preparing for the program, or in helping to close it off. This work includes student transportation and accounting. Helpers generally will receive one work credit for each week of help given, if that help amounts to more than three hours each day. Helpers may also be paid from a fund created by meal-purchases. Some leaders may be hired at a flat rate of $75 or $100 per day of leading. These arrangements will be made prior to the program.
Books
Neither students nor leaders are welcome to sell their own books in the program. Personal books sold in the program are considered donated to the program.
Days Off
Students are not welcome to take days off work, or to go work by themselves.
Meals
Breakfast is provided to Regular Students, Leaders, and Helpers, and to Visitors on days that they work by themselves at the door. For other persons or for visitors when they are working with others, breakfast costs $3.00. Lunch is provided for an additional $3.50 to anyone who wants it. Students are welcome to make or buy their own lunch, if the facilities make this possible.
Fees

Students will be charged the following fees before being paid their scholarships. Fees are deducted from the scholarship. Fees for OHC students are waved on required programs.

  Winter Summer Two-week
Program Fee $40 $110 $30
Transportation $45/round-trip $30/one-way
Donations

Customers often offer personal donations to the students. The program's accounting is based on the inclusion of these personal donations. Student agree to use those personal donations to "buy" books to be given to the customers. Donations, whether personal or for books, that exceed $150 will be counted as $150 donations, and the excess amount will be put directly (100%) into the student's scholarship. In other words, if someone donates $900, it will be counted as a $150 donation, and the other $750 will be added directly to the scholarship of the student.

The nature of this agreement makes it thievery to keep and not report a "personal" donation.

Liability

Students and Leaders and Visitors and their parents are liable for all medical expenses except those arising from insured accidents or those covered by workman's compensation.

Students and Leaders and Visitors and their parents are liable for loss and damages caused by their actions or neglect.

Auto accidents in which the program driver is at fault are covered by insurance. However, the driver will be responsible for the deductible on the accident, or for the whole cost of repairs if the cost is less than the deductible. Our deductible is $1,000. Body damage, including scrapes, breaks, dents, etc. that does not affect safety or performance, will be charged to the person responsible at the rate of 100% of estimated fixing costs on vehicles seven years old or newer, 50% of fixing costs for vehicles eleven years old or newer, and a maximum of $100 on vehicles over eleven years old.

Students and Leaders and Visitors may and likely will be held financially liable for their decisions and actions if these decisions or actions result in expense or loss to others.

Students and Leaders and Visitors are responsible for transportation expenses to and from the program, including expenses for leaving under disciplinary action.

Persons having any questions about other financial questions are invited to ask and warned not to guess.

Very Short Stays
Students working three or less days may be given no scholarship at all, at the discretion of the leadership team.
