For Parents

Phone Use

Your contact with your children is important to us. There are many students living in quarters with limited telephone access. There are curfews that students must abide by. Please review the schedules in this packet and plan to call your children before 11:00 am in the morning, or on Fridays or Sabbaths. Callers during worship services will be asked to call back after worship is over. If you must talk to them in the evening, please limit your calls to just a few minutes as there are often 30 people sleeping on the premises with only 45 minutes of time when the phone is available in the evening. Also, please be sure that your child has a phone card if you wish to have him or her call home.

Safety

Safety is important to all parties involved in this program. Students carry two-way radios with them to the door and work in groups of four or more per neighbor-hood and two per street. Leaders are always roving to check on the well-being of their students. The dress code has been designed as a safety feature as well. You can help us by assuring that your daughters do not bring revealing or provocative items of clothing. You will be glad to know that in ten years of operation, and after knocking on over two million doors, we have a safety record of zero violent crimes.

Money

See the section on the financial policies of the program. If your child is attending a school with matching funds for scholarships earned in summer programs, you may want to write us a check at the end of the summer to pay for your student's meal expenses during the program. Your check would be added to your student's scholarship allowing your student to receive the full benefits of the scholarship program.
