Dress Code and Brief Code of Conduct
Dress is truly individualistic and each person has a right to his/her own likes and dislikes. The Summer L.E. Program, however, reserves the right to require certain dress standards. Due to the unique nature of the colporteur work, we ask you to use the following dress code:
- Neat
- Ironed, clean and impeccable personal hygiene. (Daily showers, use of deodorant, hair well groomed, teeth brushed, etc.)
- Professional
- For safety reasons and because first impressions are extremely important for door-to-door sales, we ask that you dress according to the following guidelines:
- Men
- Cool slacks (no shorts or jeans), shirts with collars. Shirts with tails should be tucked in, no advertising emblems on shirts, no jewelry.
- Women
- Dresses or Skirts with blouses are to be worn during work hours. These outfits should cover the knee when the student is sitting down. Slits should not rise above the knee. Sheer, sleeveless, tight, and low necked tops will not pass the safety guidelines of the program.
- Modesty
- Modesty is an important part of the Christian life and helps distinguish us as followers of Christ. Clothes should not be tight fitting or revealing in any way. This is also very important for your personal safety while working. When you choose to wear shorts during non-working hours, they must be loose fitting and of a modest length.
- Off hours
- During the summer we plan some weekends to have fun swimming (not mixed), hiking, etc., so you should plan to bring some comfortable 'play' clothes and appropriate footwear.
- Jewelry
- Necklaces, rings, arm or leg bracelets, leather or string bands, earrings and similar items are not to be worn.
- Makeup
- Colorful cosmetics and nail polish are not to be used.
- Deportment
- At no time should a young man and woman be by themselves either on or off campus. "Avoid the appearance of evil." 1 Thessalonians 5:22. (This is a policy that the leadership team understands to be flexible. Questionable situations, such as private rendezvous after dark, etc., must be avoided. Often during missionary activities it is understood that young men and women will be together un-chaperoned.)
- Diet
- Practice Vegetarianism. Abstain from Caffeine
